About the Author
The Progressive Prophet is a project of Adam Dickson, a freelance writer, activist, and “practical theologian” residing in Manchester, United Kingdom. He currently works as a support worker for SPEAK, a network of Christians committed to praying and campaigning on issues of international injustice, such as climate change, the arms trade, global poverty, sweatshop labour, and more aside.
As part of his ongoing work to connect faith and social justice (as well as helping others make that connection), he served under the Jesuit Volunteer Community in Manchester from 2008 to 2009, during which time he experimented with intentional community living with other Christians. His tenure involved acting as a community organiser for the renowned charity Church Action on Poverty, and as an advice worker for a drop-in centre serving asylum seekers, refugees, and migrant workers.
For the past few years, Adam has been actively working and writing on issues of radical Christianity, having spoken and facilitated workshops on peace and justice issues from a faith-based perspective and being involved in nonviolent direct action events such as the Faslane 365 “big blockade” and Climate Camp. He has also been involved in helping to organise the UK conference on Christianity and Anarchism, an ongoing project of the Jesus Radicals network.
In the past, he has worked on particular projects with Student Christian Movement, Fellowship of Reconciliation, Peace School, and Leeds Christian Community Trust.
Adam is very happy to offer his services as a writer, speaker, and facilitator. When invited to speak or facilitate, he can only accept engagements based within the UK. Adam asks that his travel expenses be covered, and while he doesn’t charge for engagements per se, he does request a donation toward his time and work. In these instances, he would ask that the host consider a donation which they feel is both appropriate and affordable.
Adam is willing to write and speak on any of these topics:
Christianity and nonviolence
Community engagement and development
Intentional community
Radical political engagement
Christians in activism
Environmentalism/Ecology/Climate Change from a faith-based perspective
Solidarity with the poor and marginalised
Liberation Theology
The mission of the church
As well as anything related.
